Jimmy’s Pharm Facts : Blessings All Around Us

Jimmy FlemingNovember has arrived and brings some of the most enjoyable happenings of the year!  I SHOULD be happy but November is the beginning of my dreaded 4 month long plunge into doom and gloom.  How one hour of sunlight can have such an affect on me is really strange, but it does!

My daughter has been telling me for years that I have SAD, seasonal affective disorder and I should get a sunlamp.  The sunlamp may be a good idea but the problem is that one little hour is the beginning of the giant snowball that throws me into my “sad” state.  I know some of you out there know what I’m talking about.  It starts out with that hour, then the snowball begins.   It goes something like this….  I’ll gain 10lbs. over Thanksgiving, and then I’ll have to do a lot of shopping, and then go shopping some more.  It gets cold so I’ll put on another 10lbs for “the winter”. Next, I have to pay my property taxes, which takes me to a whole other level and finally the most awful of all is I can’t go outside and “play” after supper!  Oh the misery….

But as Thanksgiving nears I am reminded of a song my girls use to sing.

“Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat.

Please put a penny in the old man’s hat.

If you haven’t got a penny a half penny will do.

If you haven’t got a half penny, God bless you!”

It’s a simple reminder of how blessed I am and how blessed we are as a country.  Even when doom and gloom comes the blessings are still there all around us.

Now you are probably wondering if I could still use the sunlamp.  Sure, it might actually make me feel better, but if you’ve read my previous blogs you know my daughters have also diagnosed me with being frugal and being a hoarder.  So, in reality I might just pull that chicken brooder heat lamp out of the barn and give it a go!
