Jimmy’s Pharm Facts : Sing Praises to the Chef

jimmy blog pictureNovember…The wonderful time of year spent experiencing food in an “Uber” kind of way.

My wife has been the butt of many jokes over the years when the subject of cooking comes up. For years our kitchen was decorated with little plaques and trinkets that had phrases like…”Dinner’s ready when you hear the fire alarm” or “Where there’s smoke there’s dinner”. One of my personal favorites was “Nothing says home like the smell of burnt broccoli” (I penned that one myself). Before you start to think I am picking on my wife, I must admit I also have a reputation when it comes to cooking. My daughter once wrote in a paper that was displayed for open house at school that all I knew how to cook was frozen El Charrito TV dinners….sometimes the truth hurts. I simply cook to survive but my wife has skills she is just…let’s say, easily distracted. But it is at this time of year that she shines bright! She buckles down, puts on her blinders, and focuses on the task at hand. I can tell you with all honesty she makes the best Dressing I have ever had. I declare, better than my Grandmother, my Mother, my Mother in-law, and even Furr’s cafeteria (that’s a long story). My children’s mouths water at the thought of her dressing and they would shed a tear if they didn’t get to experience it twice a year. What’s so special you ask? Does it have turkey or no turkey? Does she use sage or no sage? Regular corn bread or Jiffy mix? Well the answer is….I don’t know. I just don’t know. But I do know a little praise and a compliment can go a long way. A wise man once wrote “Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones”. So to translate in “Foodie Language” that means sing praises to the chef and she will bring the soul food.
