Jimmy’s Pharm Facts : Tell Your Love Story
Well, I can’t believe it, but this is the first anniversary of Jimmy’s Pharm Facts! Last year at this time, with a snarled nose, I was shaking my head with a big ole “I don’t want to attitude”. Part of my attitude problem was a result of the whole “writing” thing, and the other part, which was just as disheartening was the “facts” in the title. I had it in my mind that I was going to have to do a lot of research like writing a college term paper and that was not appealing to me in the slightest. But my daughter reassured me that I could write whatever I wanted and I didn’t have to be so scientific. Halfheartedly, I would like to apologize to anyone who was expecting more “Pharm Facts” and less “Pharm Follies”, and also to my family for all the “Pharm Follies” instead of “Pharm Facts”.
With that said, after mulling over a couple of ideas, I decided a good love story would be appropriate to write about for the February blog. When my Mother was a teenager she was invited to a party that my uncle, Tom Sikes was throwing. Tom Sikes was my Dad’s younger brother, who was the “life of the party” type, very social and popular. My Mother, who was quiet and shy, lived on a farm on the outskirts of town. She was very excited about getting to go to a party in town, especially at Tom Sikes house not only because he was popular but also because his parents (my Grandparents) had a new brick home and there were only two in town at the time. I love this story because my Mother often showed me a door in the master bedroom of the house that had a full length mirror built into it. She told me that at the party she saw herself in that mirror and it was the first time she ever saw all of herself from head to toe. Isn’t that the best story! I know you are thinking, that is where love bloomed, but I kid you not, I couldn’t for the life of me remember anything else. I knew there was more to the story because I am living proof of it but you’ll never guess what I had to do. I had to do some research. Luckily, my sister is just a phone call away and told me that my mom and dad’s true courtship began a few years later because of a carpool. They both worked in Tyler after she completed Beauty College, and he completed Business College. It was a big deal to drive to Tyler back then, especially everyday. They crammed a car full everyday and that is where they became close, I guess in more ways than one.
Since love will soon be in the air, tell your children or grandchildren your love story! Tell them and have them tell it back, so you know they have their facts straight. If you’ve been unlucky in love tell them about Jesus. You can never go wrong with Jesus!
